EU grants – Manufacturing from waste plastics helps protect the environment
Project title: Manufacturing from waste plastics protects the environment
We can turn waste into a valuable product – outdoor decking tiles
An important aspect of our production at Fortemix is our eco-friendly approach and the maximum use of recycled materials. That is why we have decided to invest in new technology that enables us to produce unique polymer composite outdoor decking tiles. Thanks to this investment, we are able to process waste material that would otherwise end up in landfill and transform it into a high-quality and fully usable product.
The new production line was acquired as part of the project “Introduction of Innovative Production Technology Using Secondary Raw Materials”, which was supported by the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovation for Competitiveness. The project was implemented with total expenditure of almost 25 million crowns, of which nearly 9 million was covered by a grant.
We manufacture outdoor terrace tiles from recycled polyethylene composite using a modern press. This is an efficient production process with a low carbon footprint, which has expanded the possibilities for using recycled materials. The result is an outdoor tile with high utility value. A significant benefit of the project is the reduction in production costs, greater precision in production and the near-total minimisation of production waste. This enhances the environmental sustainability of operations.
The project also enhances the company’s competitiveness by expanding its product portfolio and opening up new sales channels. It creates new job opportunities in the region and supports sustainable development.
Equally crucial is raising awareness of the use of recycled materials and the potential to increase self-sufficiency in raw material sources across the whole of the Czech Republic. Through our production, we demonstrate that even in industrial manufacturing it is possible to pursue responsible and environmentally friendly business practices, and that waste can be the start of a new production cycle – not its end.

TN02000051 National Centre of Excellence for Polymer Materials and Technologies for the 21st Century:
Sub-project DP 005 – Triboelectric sorting of waste plastic granules/shredded plastic is funded by the European Union.
The aim is to optimise the four steps of triboelectric sorting of plastic waste: grinding and sample preparation; triboelectricisation of the sample; separation of the sample by material type; evaluation of the yield and purity of the separated fractions.
This project/Project National Centre of Competence for Polymer Materials and Technologies for the 21st Century is co-financed with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under the National Centres of Competence Programme."
Sub-project DP 009 – Technology for the processing of waste sludge from plastic recycling is funded by the European Union.
The aim of the sub-project is to design, test and optimise a suitable technology for the separation of sludge and plastics. Processing plastics into a form suitable for further processing, or the manufacture of products from this recycled material. This will also include an analysis of the products and intermediates generated during sludge treatment, with proposals for potential subsequent use or methods of disposal, taking into account LCA.

Sub-project DP 001N – Polymer Marking System for a Digitalised Waste Sorting System is funded by the European Union.
The aim of the sub-project is to design and validate a new, environmentally friendly and cost-effective plastic labelling system to ensure the subsequent effective sorting of plastic waste in automated sorting stations.
"The project ‘National Centre of Competence for Polymer Materials and Technologies for the 21st Century’ is co-financed with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under the National Centres of Competence Programme. The sub-project ‘Polymer labelling system for a digitalised waste sorting system’ is funded under the National Recovery Plan from the European Recovery and Resilience Facility.”
EU Grant – Stone-effect recycled composite
Project title: Stone imitation made from recycled composite
The aim of this project, co-financed by the European Union, is to acquire a new production line for the manufacture of innovative outdoor paving with an attractive stone-effect design.
In line with the current direction of Fortemix Produkce s.r.o., this production focuses on utilising materials that are difficult to recycle. Unlike the existing Fortelock product portfolio, which is intended for indoor use, the subsidised project focuses on tiles for outdoor areas. The tiles are made from a new recycled composite material.
By using recycled raw materials, the project responds to global efforts to reduce the production of virgin plastics. The use of this unique material gives the tiles a long service life thanks to the material’s higher resistance to damage. The tiles are resistant to weathering and UV radiation, which ensures, among other things, their colour fastness. Compared to other plastic paving, composite tiles offer better thermal stability. The durability of the entire floor is further enhanced by a unique system of interlocking joints and ribs. Another advantage is the very simple installation process, which does not require extensive surface preparation prior to laying. Removal, should it be necessary, is also very straightforward.
The new production line enables an automatic pressing system, which is simple and fast compared to the production of conventional paving, resulting in lower overall production costs and allowing for a lower price compared to conventional paving. Last but not least, the tiles also have a lower environmental footprint. All of this gives the tiles a competitive advantage in the outdoor paving market.
EU grants – Innovation in the production of floor tiles
These projects were supported by the European Union’s Structural Funds:
OP ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION FOR COMPETITIVENESS – INNOVATION PROGRAMME – CALL III (Innovation Project) – Innovation in the production of floor tiles
The main objective of the project is to introduce new, innovative design tiles into production.
EU grants – Low-carbon technologies
Recycling is more important than ever
Fortemix manufactures PVC floor tiles and roof tiles. One of the key elements of the company’s production is the environmental aspect. It has long sought to incorporate innovative, environmentally friendly technologies into its production process.
Thanks to the ‘Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Competitiveness’ Operational Programme, a production line for manufacturing unique PVC roofing tiles was installed and commissioned at Fortemix s.r.o. between 2019 and 2021 as part of the ‘Use of Secondary Raw Materials’ project.
This is a technologically advanced line that enables highly efficient production with a low carbon footprint and minimal waste generation. The line allows for the production of roofing materials from secondary raw materials that are very difficult to dispose of in landfills, specifically from recycled waste electrical cables.
The total expenditure on the purchase, installation and commissioning of the production line amounted to almost CZK 52 million, of which CZK 18.1 million was provided by a grant. Thanks to this funding, 4,600 tonnes of plastic recyclate could be recycled.
By reusing waste material, the company significantly increases the potential for the use of recycled material within the Czech Republic and thus contributes to improving the state of the environment.

Our company is receiving a financial contribution as part of the project “Use of secondary raw materials at Fortemix produkce s.r.o.” (CZ.01.3.14/0.0/0.0/18_186/0018444), which is co-financed by the European Union, specifically under the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovation for Competitiveness – Low-Carbon Technologies. The aim of the project is the supply, installation and commissioning of a production line for the manufacture of unique PVC roofing tiles, the production of which is based on the processing of purchased recycled material in the form of granules, which will consequently contribute to the introduction of low-carbon technology within the applicant’s production site (i.e. a production line for the manufacture of products made from secondary raw materials). The project therefore involves the introduction of innovative technology for the manufacture of plastic products (roofing tiles), which will be produced from secondary raw materials (recycled material).
