Different types of ESD flooring address electrostatic discharge in different ways. They vary in terms of durability, installation complexity and maintenance. Find out how Fortelock ESD differs from other solutions.
Acrylic is a temporary solution; Fortelock will last for years
With acrylic coatings, the ESD function is limited to the surface and diminishes over time, which is why regular renewal is necessary. Fortelock ESD dissipates static electricity throughout the entire thickness of the material and maintains stable properties throughout its service life.
Epoxy requires downtime, whereas Fortelock can be installed whilst operations continue
The application of an epoxy floor is technically demanding, requiring a level substrate and a shutdown of operations. Fortelock ESD is laid without adhesive, is quick to install, and can be fitted in sections whilst operations continue as normal.
ESD linoleum is fixed in place; Fortelock can be repaired
Adhesive-backed ESD linoleum requires precise installation, a level subfloor and more complex maintenance. And if it gets damaged, it is difficult to repair. Fortelock ESD is modular, so you can easily replace a specific tile or rearrange the entire floor.

Myths that aren't true
The most common misconceptions about PVC flooring
PVC flooring has come a long way. Find out why it offers much more today than many people realise.
Plastic flooring is always soft and unstable
Fortelock is designed for demanding conditions. It’s in a completely different league to standard plastic for hobby use.
PVC flooring can easily be damaged or crack
Fortelock paving blocks have a high point and surface load-bearing capacity (up to 6,600 kg) and, thanks to their modular system, can withstand repeated loads.
PVC is only suitable for domestic use
Today’s PVC flooring is commonly used in industrial settings, warehouses, workshops and commercial premises subject to heavy wear and tear.
PVC flooring doesn’t last very long
Provided the right type is chosen and it is properly maintained, PVC flooring can last for decades.
If the PVC is damaged, the entire floor must be replaced
With modular PVC systems, a damaged section can be easily replaced without affecting the surrounding area.

You can easily lay the ESD tiles yourself. However, to ensure the ESD system works properly, you must also install conductive tape and connect it to the building’s earthing system.

Previously, we had fluctuating electrostatic resistance readings, which made ESD checks difficult. Fortelock ESD has ensured stable and repeatable results across the entire surface.
The original floor showed variations in the measurement of leakage parameters under load. Following the installation of Fortelock ESD, the values have remained stable over the long term and are within the specified limits.
Previously, audits had revealed discrepancies between individual measurement points. Fortelock ESD has eliminated these discrepancies, and the measurements are now consistent.
Following the replacement of the flooring, the repeatability of ESD measurements during operation has improved significantly. The Fortelock ESD system maintains stable conductivity even under long-term load.
In environments containing sensitive electronic equipment, random discharges would occasionally occur. Fortelock ESD has virtually eliminated this problem.
Local variations in floor resistance used to make our assessments more difficult. The new solution has levelled out these irregularities, and the system is now consistent.
