Not sure how to manage the installation of Fortelock skirting boards, which method to choose and how to proceed? Take a look at our guide, which will help you decide more easily.

Possible ways to install Fortelock skirting boards

Fortelock skirting boards can be installed in two ways. You can choose the gluing option or the drilling option. We recommend the gluing option because it makes installation easier.

Installing skirting boards by gluing

To install skirting boards by gluing you will need:

  • base skirting boards (you will find them on the tile product cards)
  • adhesive (we recommend Mamut Glue)
  • a snap-off knife
  • a tape measure or ruler
  • Fortelock skirting boards (the Industry, XL or Invisible version)

On the relevant wall we measure and mark the height up to which we want to install the base profile (we recommend 9.5 cm from the ground), or we can use tiles that will serve as a support during installation. We divide the tiles into stacks of 6 pieces on top of each other and lay out these prepared stacks along the wall at intervals of about one metre.

Next we prepare the base profile, clean it and apply an even amount of adhesive in dots along its entire length. We then rest the bottom edge of the base profile against the prepared tiles and press it to the wall. To achieve an even spread of the adhesive, the profile needs to be pressed with greater force.

Installing skirting boards by drilling

To install skirting boards by drilling we need:

  • base skirting boards (you will find them on the tile product cards)
  • wall plugs
  • screws
  • a snap-off knife
  • a tape measure or ruler
  • Fortelock skirting boards (the Industry, XL or Invisible version)
  • a drill
  • a pencil

First we shorten the base skirting board as needed and then pre-drill holes with a diameter of 10 mm in it. We drill the holes at intervals of about half a metre apart.

We place the base skirting board against the wall, measure and mark the height up to which we want to install the base board. Next we mark on the wall the centre axis of the holes according to the openings in the board. Following the marks, we drill holes for the wall plugs into the wall (the drill diameter is based on the diameter of the wall plug used). We clean the drilled holes with a vacuum cleaner and insert the wall plugs. We place the base boards and screw them on. Before fully tightening the screws, we check the height and levelness once more and then tighten them.

Once the installation of the base skirting boards is complete, we insert the Fortelock skirting boards into the pre-prepared profiles.

How to cut an inner and outer corner?

Before you start cutting, measure everything carefully. Also account for the thickness of the board. We cut the corners with a mitre saw with fine teeth or by hand using a snap-off knife.

Place the board perpendicular to one of the inner walls of the mitre box (just as you would place it against the wall) and secure it so that it does not move during cutting. Cut a right or left angle as needed.
