Winners of the 6th Adapterra Awards

Our FORTEMIX office building, designed by the architectural Projektstudio EUCZ, took part in the Adapterra awards competition and, in the Buildings category, impressed the expert jury the most and won. The jury particularly appreciated the reuse of materials such as pallets and portacabins.

And what exactly makes the building eco-friendly?

– The roofs of the building are covered with greenery.
– The façade is clad with old pallets that serve as support for climbing plants.
– Green elements also feature on the façade and inside the building.
– The car park was transformed from concrete into grass paving.

Thanks to the ventilated façade and the green roof, the building does not overheat and the temperature in its surroundings stays pleasant. External blinds prevent the interiors from overheating. Plenty of light streams in through the roof skylight and the partly glazed floor. Energy consumption is significantly reduced by an air-to-water heat pump with an integrated electric heater installed on the roof. We also save drinking water, because the building is designed to collect rainwater, which is then used for flushing.

In short, our office building is as sustainable as it can possibly be.

All the winning and finalist projects became part of the #jaknaklima online database of good practice, available at www.adapterrawards.cz, which serves as inspiration for municipalities, individuals and companies alike — for anyone looking for proven ways to prepare towns and the landscape for ever more frequent weather extremes.
