A floor that withstands heels and marks from office chair castors
We bring you another short video in which we regularly keep you informed about the properties and benefits of Fortelock flooring. Through these videos we answer the questions you ask us most often. Another interesting topic is:
The resistance of Fortelock flooring to ladies' heels and to marks from office chair castors
Fortelock flooring is a perfect fit for many commercial spaces and offices. These areas are regularly subjected to more or less intense foot traffic and the movement of office chairs. Heels can make quite an impression. Unfortunately, they often leave unsightly scratches, smudges or dents on the floor, and some types of flooring gradually get ruined this way. Chair castors are not suited to every surface either. Fortelock tiles stand up very well to both types of this damage.
Which castors and mats to use on PVC flooring
All standard Fortelock ranges pass the castor chair test according to EN ISO 4918. Even so, the maintenance sheet recommends chairs with type W castors according to DIN EN 12528 and 12529, or protective mats. Do not put rubber caps under furniture legs; use PVC or PE protectors instead: dark and coloured rubber can cause permanent discolouration after prolonged contact. If the floor has a PUR lacquer finish, protect it from unprotected movable furniture, as scratches in the lacquer are not covered by a claim. The Business design range with hidden locks, Fortelock Business, is intended for offices and shops.
Frequently asked questions
Can Fortelock PVC tiles withstand office chair castors?
Yes. All standard Fortelock ranges pass the castor chair test according to EN ISO 4918, so castors do not leave permanent dents in them. For long-term use, the manufacturer recommends type W castors according to DIN EN 12528 and 12529, or a protective mat under the chair.
Can rubber castors or mats stain PVC flooring?
Yes, they can. According to the technical data sheet, dark and coloured rubber, such as castors, mats or shoe soles, can cause permanent discolouration after prolonged contact. Under furniture legs, therefore, use PVC or PE protectors instead of rubber caps.
Which Fortelock floor is best suited to an office?
The Business range is designed primarily for offices. It is a heterogeneous design tile with designer decors, hidden locks and a graphite joint. The ZeroGap system minimises water permeability at the joints, so the floor can be mopped as normal. According to the manufacturer, the Invisible range with its hidden lock is also suitable for offices.
How do I protect PVC flooring under furniture and racking?
With protective pads and careful handling. Sharp objects, sand, furniture legs or claws can scratch the surface, so the technical data sheet recommends protective pads and never sliding pallets without lifting them. Under heavy furniture or racking, the installation is considered fixed, and the tiles are glued or mechanically secured at that point.
Can PVC flooring be laid in an office without interrupting work?
Yes. Fortelock tiles are laid gradually, section by section and without wet processes, so the whole space does not have to be cleared. According to the manufacturer, the Business range is laid in stages during full operation, and the finished section can be used immediately.
