CANISTHERAPY helps
Thank you very much for your support of non-profit organisations. Thank you for offering to support our volunteer work. We will use the funds to support our canistherapy project, carried out by trained volunteers, members of the Podané ruce, z. s. association, with their certified dogs. We provide therapy in around 70 facilities to child and adult clients with various types of disability. In Frýdek-Místek this includes almost all residential social services and day centres. Also a children's home, special schools and a hospice. We also visit healthy children in schools of all kinds, including nurseries. The association carries out the most visits and activities in MSK, but it also has members in the Zlín and Olomouc regions, where our volunteers are likewise very active in the field of canistherapy. We also provide canistherapy individually to children with disabilities (autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, etc.) at our association's canistherapy centre in Malý Koloredov, Místek.
Please convey our heartfelt thanks to all your employees and to the managing director for supporting our canistherapy work, said Helena Fejkusová, director of the Podané ruce organisation.
And how does canistherapy help?
- Stroking and cuddling the dog, i.e. satisfying the need for tenderness.
- Conversations between the client and the therapist, during which the client learns that a dog can also be sad, happy or ill, and that if they take good care of it and love it, the dog will be a good friend.
- The therapist tries to establish communication between the client and the dog in order to reduce shyness and withdrawal and to encourage spontaneous expression towards other people.
- When a small dog is used, it fosters protective and caring attitudes, especially in children. When a large dog is used, the child gains a sense of security.
- Discovering new things in the company of an animal helps to break down unfounded fears and diverts the client's attention from their own troubles.
- In group therapy, the client finds in „their“ dog an ally for managing communication and behaviour within the group.
